Alteration & Extension, Rutland Sailing Club, Edith Weston, Rutland
This project involved the alterations and extensions to Rutland Sailing Club. It was a part Sports England Lottery funded scheme and thus incorporated a 'Sailability' school for disabled sailors. There were considerable extensions to the Function Rooms, wet bar and clubroom and to the accommodation on the ground floor. A complete programme of refurbishing of the changing facilities, meeting rooms and offices was carried out. The extensions were on the ground floor and incorporated the new training rooms and Sailabilty changing rooms and school area, above these rooms a large open balcony area was formed. The design of the alterations and extensions was done to match the existing building with a feature made out of the balcony overlooking Rutland Water. We were involved in every element of the design from the main construction, to developing carpeting colour schemes to designing a fire signage layout. The whole project was of a complicated nature, the survey of the building was carried out by our firm but a lot of the methods of construction had to be assumed until the work actually began and the building was opened up. All elements of a design-drawing package were produced from 3D/2D visualization, sketch schemes, working drawings (hand and CAD drawn), schedules and specifications.
