Housing Development

Swan Street, Sileby, Leicestershire

The village of Sileby is located some 9 miles north of the city of Leicester. This housing development site is formerly occupied by an upholstery factory complex. The design concept was to create 11 compact starter dwellings, taken characteristics from the close vicinity in replace of the purposed built brick factory building. All units are in two or three bedroom configurations. The footprint and the elevational treatments are aimed to provide a continuation of traditional terrace which is heavily featured along Swan Street, and to have this rhythm maintained throughout the development. Seven linked units in an L-shape format and two pairs of semi-detached are created in the form of a courtyard to provide these dwellings a sense of individual identity whilst notwithstanding the essence to address Swan Street. Juliet balconies are introduced to provide a more contemporary outlook to the development.
