Residential Housing Development
Site at Aberaman, nr Aberdare, Wales
Our proposal seeks to utilise the existing topography characteristics of the site. We aim to provide 15no. 2-storey three-bedroom houses strategically laid out into two courtyards in order of to establish a neighbourhood identity within each level as well as the entire development. Six dwellings share the upper new yard whilst the lower yard is shared by the remaining 9 units. The two yards are separated by the remainder of the existing retaining wall. This design concept enables the internal courtyards to be exclusive to the new dwellings within the development whilst maximising the amount of outward looking façades to address all the main roads that surround the site.
Our concept in the design of internal layout of each unit, focuses on obtaining views of the surrounding landscape without compromising the issue of privacy amongst the new units in our proposal and any existing units in the immediate surroundings. Most units have habitable rooms with celebratory size windows/French doors strategically positioned south-westerly, southerly or easterly to provide views of surrounding mountainous landscape from within. Some full height windows are incorporated to the first floor not only to provide a contemporary appearance to the proposal, but also to maximise the amount of natural daylight gained into these units while stunning views from the principal bedrooms.
The proposal has received approval from the committee of the Local Authority and is currently awating for legal approval on 106 agreement.
